Who is Keith M. Boyd?
Keith M. Boyd was the founder and creator of the Keith M. Boyd Museum in
Russell.
Over the years Keith provided countless informative articles for The Russell
Villager newspaper readers. He was born and raised in Russell and for many
years, operated a store there.
He began his own collection of memorabilia; old Russell photographs and
artefacts - in turn people began dropping off more and more items at his
doorstep. Keith knew he had to find a suitable repository for all the wonderful
treasures that had been accumulating. At the time it just so happened that the
old venerable Baptist church was sitting vacant on its old site.
Seizing the opportunity, Boyd took his plans for the new museum to the Township.
The municipality approved his proposal and bought the old church and had it
transported by a building mover across the river to the museum's present site at
the corner of Church and Concession Streets in Russell.
In recognition of Boyd's efforts, the Township named the museum after him. The
museum was officially opened in 1989.
Keith M. Boyd died in 1993, but his fine legacy lives on in the institution of
the museum for the benefit of all Russell residents.
